Fine Dining
Quebec City is world famous for its Fine Dining experiences. Old Québec’s Lower Town (Basse-Ville) and Upper Town (Haute-Ville) Québec City both offer a great selection of places to eat. Choose from delicatessens and markets, quaint cafés, romantic and charming hideaways or formal restaurants for wonderful dining experiences. Food is fairly expensive in Quebec, and you will need to budget accordingly. Even a simpler café or bar may be costly, so you need to be prepared.

Restaurant or Café
Quebec City has many restaurants and cafés to choose from. The café culture is a vibrant part of Quebec City as in most of Europe. There are many quaint cafes nestled around Marche Champlain and around the Chateau.

Old Quebec City is a favourite tourist location. Don’t worry if you don’t speak French. Many restaurants post menus out front in both French and English to accommodate the non French speaking tourists.

Table d’hôte
Look for Table d’hôte Specials when you would like a full course fixed price meal. Such a menu may also be called prix fixe (“fixed price”). These menus may also be recognized as ’set meal’ and ‘set menu’. If you are looking for some less expensive, traditional French foods, try a Crêpe, or a tourtière québecoise (meat pie) or a poutine (fries, gravy, and cheese curds).

Famous Quebec Cheese
A large variety of Quebec cheese, from local farms in the surrounding countryside, is available from the many delicatessens and markets located in Quebec City. Try some of the region’s specialty cheeses including brie or camembert style cheeses. These are made with raw milk (lait cru), providing the cheese with superior flavors and textures not usually found outside Quebec.
